Pelvic Floor Consultations
Pelvic health consultations are performed by an osteopath who has done additional training in treating conditions that commonly affect women. This often involves treating issues related to pelvic floor, incontinence, pain around the back, hips or SIJ or any pre or postnatal concerns such as prolapse or Diastasis Recti. Or you may just be wanting the best advice on how and when to exercise before and after your delivery. Conditions are often related to pregnancy and postpartum, however treatments encompass conditions that affect women throughout their entire lifespan. Common conditions include:
- Pelvic Pain
- Pain associated with endometriosis and adenomyosis
- Overactive or ‘tight’ Pelvic Floor
- Dyspareunia (Sexual Pain)
- Dysmenorrhea (Painful Periods)
- Pudendal Neuralgia
- Light bladder leakage, urgency or frequency
- Overactive Bladder
- Vaginismus and vulvodynia
- Postnatal check up
- Postnatal return to exercise
- Prolapse management
- Scar tissue mobilization (C-section, perineal or episiotomy)
At North Shore Osteopaths, Emma Berry, our women’s health osteopath will take a thorough history for your condition. This allows for an understanding of your pain/symptoms, your pain or birth story and your goals moving forward.
From here, Emma will assess the key muscles of your abdominal wall, back, pelvis and pelvic floor, with the option to do this both externally and/or internally.
This assessment will allow for a clear diagnosis and timeframe to improve your symptoms, create a rehab plan specifically tailored to your needs and allow you to achieve your unique goals.
Emma Berry has completed further training in Pelvic Floor assessment and treatment and is able to perform internal exams if clinically necessary. However, not all women’s health consultations will require internal examination and we are able to assess your condition externally also.
